Adeladius Makwega and Tumaini Muungurumo:DODOMA.
Welcome, readers, listeners and viewers, to this summary of the President's Office, Department of National Records and Archives Journal, Issue No. 02, October 2026.
This summary presents all the news articles published in the journal in a formal, concise and easy-to-understand language. Its purpose is to reach readers, listeners and viewers, particularly those who may not have the opportunity to read our printed journal.
Our October 2026 edition highlights various activities undertaken by the President's Office, Department of National Records and Archives, as well as important national events relating to development, public service delivery, youth empowerment and records preservation. Our writers and information officers were present at these events to bring you the latest reports.
We begin with the lead story featured in our journal, titled:
ERB COMMENDED FOR COMPLETING RECORDS RETENTION AND DISPOSAL GUIDELINES
The Director General of the Department of National Records and Archives, Mr. Firimin Msiangi, has commended the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) for completing and signing the Records Retention and Disposal Guidelines.
The guidelines aim to establish formal procedures for the preservation, management and disposal of records in accordance with established laws and regulations. This initiative forms part of the implementation of the National Records and Archives Management Act, Chapter 309.
Leaving ERB's activities in Dodoma, we now travel to Rukwa Region, where we bring you the following story:
HANDOVER OF THE UHURU TORCH AT THE 2026 NATIONAL UHURU TORCH RACE FINALE
The 2026 National Uhuru Torch Race Leader, Mr. Wazo Mwang’onda, handed over the Uhuru Torch to the Vice-President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Deogratias Ndejembi, during the grand finale of the race held in Sumbawanga, Rukwa Region.
The race aimed to strengthen unity, solidarity and patriotism among Tanzanians while encouraging citizens to participate in national development activities. It also continued to promote the fight against corruption, diseases and ignorance.
Still in Sumbawanga, our journal captured another important event in which the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, expressed his admiration for innovations developed by young people.
PRIME MINISTER IMPRESSED BY YOUTH INNOVATIONS
Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has expressed his admiration for various innovations developed by young people during the 2026 National Youth Week celebrations held in Sumbawanga, Rukwa Region.
During the celebrations, he emphasized the importance of empowering young people through training, access to capital and markets to enable them to transform their ideas into productive projects.
The Government continues to encourage young people to take advantage of opportunities in technology, agriculture, business and clean energy to increase employment, improve incomes and contribute to national development.
From Sumbawanga, we return to Dodoma City, where we highlight a story emphasizing the importance of communication and accountability in public service delivery.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, PROFESSIONALISM AND ACCOUNTABILITY: PILLARS OF STRONG PERFORMANCE
The Director General of the Department of National Records and Archives, Mr. Firimin Msiangi, has urged employees to uphold professionalism, accountability and effective communication in carrying out their responsibilities.
He emphasized that employees should provide reports demonstrating the results and achievements of their work rather than focusing solely on the processes involved.
Furthermore, he encouraged the proper use of government systems, procedures and directives to improve efficiency and enhance service delivery.
The journey towards completing this journal was a long one, during which the editorial team also enjoyed various forms of entertainment, including conversations and Tanzanian local music.
However, it seems Sumbawanga had so much to offer that we almost overlooked another important story. Nevertheless, we cannot conclude without bringing it to your attention.
DIRECTOR KYANDO VISITS THE NATIONAL YOUTH WEEK EXHIBITION
The Director of the Department of National Founders, Mr. Salum Kyando, visited exhibition booths during the 2026 National Youth Week celebrations held at Ndua Primary School grounds in Sumbawanga.
The visit aimed to explore innovations, products, technologies and various activities undertaken by young people and participating institutions.
The celebrations took place from 8 to 14 October 2026 under the theme: "Different Environments, Equal Opportunities for Youth."
Our journal has now returned fully to Dodoma City, where we bring you a story about customer service.
UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM LECTURER PARTICIPATES IN CUSTOMER SERVICE WEEK
The President's Office, Department of National Records and Archives, received Mr. Mtechura Brighton, a Researcher and Assistant Lecturer from the University of Dar es Salaam, who visited the Department to conduct research on culture and film in Tanzania.
He was received and assisted by Records Officer Ms. Leaclara Ngair.
The event took place during Customer Service Week, which aims to promote the delivery of quality services that meet customers' needs and expectations.
Our October edition does not end there. It also features an important historical document relating to the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC).
DOCUMENT OF THE MONTH: THE HISTORY OF MVUMI AREA
The journal features a historical document that served as a preparatory script for a programme by Tanganyika Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), which was prepared and broadcast on 10 September 1961.
The programme focused on the history of the Mvumi area, which is currently located in Dodoma Region.
This document demonstrates the importance of preserving historical records as a means of acquiring, safeguarding and advancing knowledge about our nation's history.
As we continue exploring the contents of this journal, we now turn to an important topic concerning the protection of personal information.
EMPLOYEES URGED TO BE VIGILANT IN PROTECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION
Employees of the Department of National Records and Archives have been urged to protect their personal information to prevent unauthorized use.
The call was made during Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training held in Dodoma City.
Speaking during the training, Senior Human Resources Officer Ms. Happiness Masija emphasized the importance of not sharing sensitive information without a valid reason. She also highlighted the need to obtain consent before using other people's photographs or personal information, particularly for commercial purposes.
Furthermore, employees were advised to exercise caution when using social media platforms to ensure the security and privacy of information.
This topic was presented by ICT Officer Mr. Ally Ally.
CONCLUSION
Overall, the October 2026 journal has highlighted the importance of strengthening government records management and preservation, promoting accountability and professionalism among employees, protecting personal information and improving customer service delivery.
Furthermore, the journal has demonstrated the Government's efforts to empower young people to utilize innovations and available opportunities across various sectors for their personal growth and the overall development of the nation.
The key message emerging from this edition is that proper records and archives management is a fundamental foundation for efficient performance, transparency, accountability and sound decision-making.
