By Adeladius Makwega – President’s Office, Department of Records and Archives Management, Dodoma
The Director General of the President’s Office, Department of Records and Archives Management, Mr. Firimin Msiangi, has urged staff to uphold professionalism, accountability, and effective communication in order to improve work performance and enhance service delivery.
He emphasized the importance of timely communication, adherence to government procedures and directives, and reporting work outcomes rather than merely describing processes. He also noted that the Department plays a vital role in the operations of public institutions through office administration and records management.
The call was made during a working performance meeting held in Dodoma on 9 October 2026, aimed at strengthening accountability and improving the performance of public servants.
What do these remarks from our leader mean for public service?
In the public service, these remarks mean that every public servant is expected to perform their duties professionally, with integrity, accountability, and efficiency to ensure that citizens receive quality services.
The implications for day-to-day work are as follows:
First, Professionalism: Every public servant should perform their duties in accordance with their professional knowledge, skills, discipline, and required standards.
Second, Accountability: Every public servant should fulfil their assigned responsibilities and be answerable for the results of their work.
Third, Effective Communication: Leaders and staff should communicate clearly and promptly to facilitate the smooth execution of duties.
Fourth, Compliance with Government Procedures: All duties should be carried out in accordance with the laws, regulations, procedures, and lawful government directives.
Fifth, Results Orientation: Public servants should demonstrate completed tasks and the achievements made rather than merely describing the activities undertaken.
Conclusion
This message emphasizes that effective performance in the public service is measured by how well public servants fulfil their responsibilities, follow established procedures, demonstrate accountability, and achieve the expected results. This approach helps improve institutional performance, the use of public resources, and service delivery to citizens.
